I have an older 80s Imperialstar Tama model kit.

I bought it used about 14 years ago & was told at the time from the guy who sold it to me "I bought it back in the 80s." So as a result, I don't know just exactly how old it is, but suffice to say, it's at least 20 years or more old.

The shells are in good shape & I love their sound. I'm not particularly interested in buying a new shell pack, but, I have an ongoing problem. The lugs/claws that hold the rims of the bass drum on (which in turn hold the heads) continue to disintegrate & fall off.

What's actually happening is the screws that go up into the lugs are falling apart & breaking. The head of the screw remains in the lug itself & cannot be removed/replaced. As a result, I'm resorting to having to use bungee cords to keep a firm grip on the rims/heads. This is not practical & also makes me feel like a dork at gigs.

I have not been able to find replacement lugs for my bass drum. I've tried calling several specialty shops that were suggested to me by my local dealer who I buy gear from & have searched the web (including eBay) with no luck so far.

Does ANYONE have any suggestions for where to find these lugs / claws? I want to keep my kit intact. If it would help in finding a solution, I can post both the model number of my kit along with pics of the lugs / claws.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

You said you've searched ebay and found none??
You're not searching very hard. They are all over ebay.
I just did a search and on the first page I found 3 sellers selling lugs for the 80's Superstar/Imperialstar bass drum lugs and a set of claws. They are common pieces and you can probably get them for under $5 each. Sometimes much less if you are patient.

1983 Superstar Super Mahogany: 6,8 concert, 8x9, 10x9, 12x11, 13x12, 14x13, 15x14, 16x16FT, 16X18FT, 20x16BD, 24x16BD(2) 14X6.5 Rosewood snare
1984 Artstar Cordia: 22x16BD(2), 8x9, 10x9, 12x11, 13x12, 14X13, 16x16ft, 14x6.5 snare

Last time I'd checked ebay, I didn't find anything. Just went & checked & sure enough, you were right. Thanks!

So the Superstar & Imperialstar series lugs are interchangeable? And size-wise, they're all about the same dimensions, right?

I appreciate the help!

In the 80's Superstar and Imperialstar used the exact same lugs. The bass drum lugs are longer than the tom lugs so make sure if you decide to bid on anything they are in fact bass drums lugs. They also used the same T-Handles and claws. T-Handles changed in about 1980. The early style T-handle has a smooth "T" and the later style has a border around the "T".

Many, many thanks for all the help, info & suggestions. Found a set of 10 bass drum lugs on ebay. They're the right fit & I ordered 'em last night.
