Dang bro that's quite an angle your hi hat is at. Don't wear shorts when
playing, everything will be hangin' out there for the world to see.
Well, those aren't for New Year's. Those are my everyday balloons.

Those Imps look nice but the reso... For metal heads it's OK but when you're not one then...
Another thing is the badge which on swingstar were right down of the
tom mount but on Imps the badge is offset which will bring them
backward if you mount the toms on cymbals stands.
I like the fact that TAMA replaced the pedal beater too vs the one that was felt only.
Hey drumly, how do you like the snare ? They look nice and look forward
to hear them. It's a nice kit you have but change your cymbals and
heads when you can afford it. Your toms look like they are very angled
though, careful about wrist injury.

lets wave goodbye not only to swingstar but to stagestar as well.. i like everything about the new imp - the logo on the bass drum reso, the starclassic-like bassdrum legs, the wrap glued over the entire shell.. it all makes the kit too nice to be entry level. except the price- in europe it costs 700 euro.. whereas for 600 euro you can have a birch/baswood semi-pro taye rockpro which is taye's version of superstar. nonetheless, the new imp rules in the entry division. a flawless kit. BTW, the PTG wrap kicks a** - if you want a nice dark-chrome metallic finish then go for it ! slavomir2007-1-17 0:20:22

I don't want to be negative but isn't this really a case of changing the name to protect the guilty? I mean the Swingstar name has a stigma of being low end, low quality drums so we change the name for several years until the new name gets the same stigma and then the name changes again.

They should call a spade a spade. I don't want to go as far as having them call it cr@pstar or anything, but serious. Swingstar with a few tricks 'tis all.

Chances of changing the name of...
Swingstar = Very good. Probably happen many times.
Rockstar = Might happen. Oops, this just happened.
Starclassic = Never f'ing happen in a million years.
I'm not saying Swings are bad, but just budget drums. Sadly budget turns into 'bad' in peoples' minds, and 'bad' just doesn't sell so the name is changed to protect the guilty.
No need to change the Starclassic name.
No negativity to Tama for it. You do what you gotta do to sell your stuff.

I hope because they aren't bad like people tend to say but I admit that
TAMA should do something about their so called "budget" line. Maybe get
rid of the Accu-tune hoops, the 1.6 mm triple-flanged hoops and
unicolor wrap then fit wood bass drum hoops, 2.3 mm triple flanged
hoops and suspension mount, mix poplar/maple shell (even if it's asian maple) and offer
satin or laquer finish then the conception of bad "budget" kit will
change for good one.
