I love my exotix 5 kit (18" x 22", 7" x 8", 8" x 10", 9" x 12", 11" x 14", 13" x 16", 6" x 14" and 14" x 20" custom gong bass)!!!!

<br />It sounds amazing, I've used it on several recordings and it never fails to garner some comment from either engineer, producer or artists! i'm a little reluctant to gig with it though. too bad it looks killer!!!

<br />I was going for that modern look. The bubinga paneling below my chair rails in the kitchen look outstanding. I flipped a 16x26" bubinga exotix bass drum on it's end and put a piece of 32" round beveled-edge glass on top, and I'm using an 8x8" bubinga exotix shell as my lamp shade. It doesn't let any light through the shell, but with all the other lights of, the light kind of "squeezes" through the holes drilled for the lugs. A nice party effect!

<P>I think that the Tama Exotix are possibly the best drum line ever produced. The best not just from Tama but from <EM>any </EM>drum company (although there is a lot of good competition out there these days). I wonder though if the innovative folks at Tama have ever considered offering the Exotix series in more sizes than just the current "fusion" kit/sizes. Let's say Tama offered the Exotix series similar to what they do now where they select, for that particular year, the type of wood and finish they'll use, but rather than just make <EM>all</EM> of the kits available only as the "fusion" set-up, why not make a least some of the kits available as custom order kits? Just make some custom kits, fit to order, until the lot of wood is gone, rather than just offering all the kits as the same fusion set-up. I understand this would make life in general more difficult for Tama and would possibly drive the cost up a bit, but in my view, from the drummer side of things, that would be the best way to get the best kit!! <IMG src="http://www.tama.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0"></P>

I have the #2 kit of 38 produced in 2002. I would love to have the floor toms on legs instead of suspended but it 1S an awesome kit.

Funny, I'm starting to feel the same way with my Exotix 5 kit. The floor toms actually ring too long on mounts. Its a nice problem to have but I had done a session for a singer/songwriter a few months back and I used my Bubinga kit. The engineer had to go "gaffer tape crazy" to get my floor toms to ring less. The overtones were actually conflicting harmonically with the acoustic guitar tracks.

<br />Typically, the wood used is of a select nature and is highly figured. This exquisite wood is sometimes hard to come by and can be very costly. The wood is bought in lots, and they make as many kits as they can from that lot.

Hi guys, Just joined and I've got a Exotix III no. 60 of 100, as soon as I saw the advert in modern drummer back in 2003 I knew I had to have it. Best kit I've ever owned and other drummers that have tried it have been blown away.

It's a beautiful kit! I think that all of the exotix kits are great! I am kinda' partial to my exotix 2002, though. Did yours come with the Earthtone bass drum head?
