From what I see in the pics, it looks like that 16x20 Gong Bass is realy just a 16x20 bass drum with floor tom legs? No oversize head/hoop?

ProfessorJr, That is exactly right... It is a modified 16x20 Kick drum. Tama modified the kick w/ the floor tom legs for me.
I wanted to be able to have it on my left at the playing level of a floor tom (which, of course differs from the gong stand) that "Gong Bass" Floor Tom term was used because this drum defies terminology. I decided to use a kick instead of an actual Gong Drum, because the sound I was looking for would come from a drum with a resonant head. I used an Ebony Pinstripe batter and an Ebony Amb on the resonant. This drum also has a 5" hole on reso side for the insertion of the AKG D112. The big round full tone is unbelievable. I don't really use it so much like a floor tom per se. Almost more of a tympani-ish type of build and or accents... hope that helps.. :)
