Thanks for the link.

Yak, I could not find anything larger than 21" x 17" sheets.

Steph: scroll down to paper backed veneer on the home page.

4 x 8 sheets have to be stitched together from smaller pieces and then
a paper back is applied.

This allows the veneer to lay flat so if you want to use high bond
two sided sticky tape to adhere the veneer to the drum, you can.

non- paper backed veneer can be wavy and requires contact cement
to lay flat on the drum shell.

Got the wrap off the 12in rose tom (granstar):

Looks like good grain to stain on, but the seems are not slanted, the grain is vertical, and there is a flat spot where the outer ply was fitted. Does this look like a veneer job, or maybe some wood filler and sanding?

steph. It was meant to be a wrapped shell from the factory.

The step is there to allow a smooth seam in the wrap.
The vertical grain was also used on the outside because nobody
would ever see it nor a slanted seam.

Sadly it's not a candidate for staining unless you re-wrap it in
birch veneer.
