Maybe wood tips have come a long way... when I used them way back in the 80s/90s, they would turn into sharp points and ruin my heads. They chipped and splintered a lot... so nylon I went and never really thought about any 'sound' difference.

Don't understand the nylon tips just sayingThink
Yes my wood marks up my heads and cymbals but sounds great compared to plastic why would I substitute sound for something that i can clean off the cymbals later or just change the heads if my drums were going to a show ...meanwhile I'd have to get a new suit for to go with my new head .The

I dislike nylon tips, just for the excesive brightness of cymbals, too many high frecuencies.
I started with VF 5A, use it for years,we had so few options here in Chile.
Now I bought my sticks on ebay, so I switch to VF X5A with Vic Grip and for special gigs I play X8D, is like having a jazz stick only longer.
