May try a 14" for my snare. Looking for a high, tight tuning, with a bit of ring. Will this work, or will the coating make it sound dead when super tight? Using on an acrylic shell.

Only one way to find out! Could be the best $20 you ever spent, if not, it's only $20!
Seriously though, I reckon this head will sound great on any drum, give it a go.

I think it should work fine. It's coated, but a single 10 mil ply, and the coating is pretty unique. It's seems like it's almost integrated into the head. I like the UV1s on my toms, but I've been putting Evans Coated Hybrids on my snares. There's just something about the sound of the Hybrids I love, plus they are indestructible, minus they cost a LOT!

First time playing my Walnut snare, and I put a UV1 on it. So not sure which has the greater effect (Walnut or head), but the snare has a lot of dynamics, ghost notes are better than I can normally play them. Very slight ring to these but just enough. Snare rolls blend very well.

Really like the UV1! I doubt it's the snare that is making it sound so good, it usually the head.

I just installed UV1 over Reso 7 on all my toms (I was running G1 clear over Genera Reso clear). The first thing I noticed is the lack of that nice "tak" sound I get with the clear batter head. My 10", 14" & 16" all sound good, but my 12" is not happy at the moment.

Glad you gave it a go, thought you might like it! Great heads for sure, so responsive and articulate.

I'm using clear G1's under the UVI's and they sound great, maybe experiment with the reso head. For reference, my 12" tom is a SCM 12x10.

Yeah, so far I'm not that stoked about the sound, even after an hour of fussing with & playing them. Obviously, I'll use 'em until they're dead, so there's still hope.

If I fail, I guess I can always use fake drums. Shifty

Yup, this was an assignment for my EDM class, using the drum stem from Deadmau5 track Snow Cone.

Personal verdict:
These batter heads, combined with the Reso 7, produce a sound that is not as open as a clear G1-over-clear Genera combo. By "open" I mean I hear more mid- and upper mid-tone frequencies with the clear combo. The UV1-Reso 7 combo reduces these frequencies considerably. By "considerably" I mean just about anyone can hear the difference. Even a vocalist.

The downside to my preferred G1-Genera combo is that the G1 heads get stretched out much more easily, especially now that I'm using 5B sticks.

Regardless, Evans is making some excellent videos. This one is my current favorite: https://youtu.be/ZrE7cCv9a-c
