The new 18" tom I special ordered and recently received had a threaded air vent grommet with a finger nut on the back side. Much nicer that the press fit (and sometimes loose) ones on the rest of my kit. Does anyone know how I might go about ordering those for my other drums?
I've seen similar ones at Drum Factory Direct, but I'd like to get the Tama parts if they can be had.
Help anyone?

So I dealt with the same thing: older drums had the press version and my newer ones with that screw type. Tama doesn't sell them, and no one else sells that size in the threaded version...so what I did (cause I'm ocd to a point) was order the drum factory direct version, which are slightly bigger (1/2") then I drilled the holes out slightly bigger to accommodate those. They're not a dead on match, but you wouldn't know unless you put them side by side and make the comparasion.
Yog!

The Starclassic Mirage line used the 1/2" threaded grommets, so using that size in place of the other wouldn't make that much of a difference in terms of being "Tama" accurate.

Thanks guys.
I ordered some of the DFD ones, but I'm still going to see if I can find a line on the Tama version.
It'll require some serious consideration to get up the gumption to take a drill to my babies!

Ha - I did the opposite... Well, I ordered a BB tom and it came with a threaded grommet that did not match the rest of my kit with the normal pressed in tabbed grommets. Due to other reasons, I returned that drum for another one but requested the normal pressed in grommet to match, which Tama did.

I hate the threaded grommet from the factory, it screams DIY.

Same here, though I will admit that when I need to refinish something, I'm always thankful if it had threaded grommets installed.

Thanks for the responses. I just find it impossible to believe that in the age of the internet and global communications that I can't find the source for the drum vent hole grommets that TAMA, a world renowned drum manufacturer uses. I got the DFD version, but they don't match exactly, and the only way I'd take a drill to my toms is if they did. (OK, I'm OCD to a whole 'nother level).
It's got to be out there somewhere. Come on... this is a crowd source search. ;)
Let's find it Tama people!!!!

In regards to Tama threaded air vent grommets... I talked to the Canadian Tama distributor and the official Tama factory code for the threaded air vent grommets are +D4133AS... He spoke to Tama and they have them in stalk and will sell them... What you have to do is have your local Tama dealer order them for you from Tama... Hope this helps. Cheers!
Tama are the best! F@#% the rest!

I "second" the idea of these vintage-styled replacement grommets.
They are PRICEY, but that's because he has them custom-made specifically for HIM in low quantities. They are roughly $10/ea.
BUT... they look great. I just ordered some to replace the BEEFY chrome ones that I had used 7-8 years ago when I had my big kit repainted. I never LIKED those, but they were all that was available. The replacement ones from Jammin Sam look SOOOOO much better.
