i currently have a 9x12, and 10x 13 tom tom, and a 16x16 floor tom. i wanted to get at least two more toms for my drumset. i was thinking about getting the 14x14 floor tom and a 11x14 tom tom. but would they be too similar in sound because they both have a 14" diameter? shoud i get a 8x10 instead of the 11x14??

hey kyle777, personally I would definately get a 10" + 14" floor.

yes, they may be similar in sound, but they will have definate differences. I'd go for the 10" then you have a wider spectrum of sounds to experiment with, plus, mounting 10,12,13 toms is relatively easy to fit into your setup adding a 14" rack tom may push things around quite alot.

I too am thinking about getting another tom, a 2nd floor tom in my case. 12"x14" or 16"x18"?

I like to play 60s-current rock, 70s-80s r&b/funk. Given my current tom sizes (see my sig below) and musical tastes, what recommendations do you have for floor tom sizes? I'm leaning to a 12"x14" since my current 14"x16" has a throaty deep sound, but want to hear what others may have to say or experiences they've had.
