i have a double tom holder for mounting toms on a bass drum that came with my imperialstar kit, but i think i prefer to have the toms off to the side of my bass drum. since i already have the tom holder i was thinking i could connect it to a cymbal stand with the MC62 clamp, rather than buying a separate stand for my toms. but would both toms on the same cymbal stand be too heavy and make the stand unbalanced???

If you have the stand set up right. Yes it's possible.
Try and get each tom over a leg of the stand, a 10" and 12" tom should be fine. Personally I wouldn't mount a 12" and 13" tom of an imerialstar stand plus a cymbal. Might be a bit too wobbly but you never know until you try!
