I'm gonna get new heads for my Imperialstar toms for the time that I'm waiting to get my new drums. I was just going to get the batter heads, because I already have Clear Ambassadors for the resonate side and I don't want to spend a whole lot of money on these drums. Right now my batters are Coated Emperors that are really worn out. I'd say almost two years old in February. They aren't broken, just worn out, and they love to make flappy sounds for me, because the just don't like to tune like they did.

So I was looking at different heads, and I don't know what I should go with. I was hoping that you guys (here at the Tama forum) could help me out. I was either looking at the Black Suede Emperor or Ambassador. Or maybe the Clear Pinstripes. Possibly Smooth White Emperor, or Clear Controlled Sound. Those are the heads I was looking at. So what could give me a good tone for my Imperialstars? Any other suggestions tell me!

What are your guys' opinions? Thanks in advance.

I just put some Aquarian Super-2 clears on my band class's Imperialstar drum kit. I had my beginning percussion students put them on and tune them with me checking them. Those heads sound great and were easy to tune, even for my beginning students! Those drums sounded great before but now even better. I never had used the Super-2's before, but I think I may want to use them for my new B/B.

I don't know if it's still newsworthy, but some questions back:

- Did you like the sound of your drums with those Emperors? If YES, why change to different ones? Just replace, one by one.
- If NO, would a little change help? For example, clear Emperors for some more presence?
- And if Emperors were not the right choice at all, what kind of music do you play?
- And what kind of would you like to sound your drums? (bright and sensitive, or full and resonate, or dark and heavy or so..)

Some of these info could help to make fitting suggestions.

Just for now: I loved the PinStripes for producing a fat, warm, and enforced sound (could I say so in english?) But they are not very dynamic and miss any clarity.
Currently, I play clear Ambassadors as batters on all toms and feel very comfortable with them. And I liked the clear Emperors aswell.

Hope that helps.
