I have a set of Imperialstars from the mid 70's I think. It is the Saturn 12+1 kit in Platina. I let the snare go years ago and regret it. It now has an old 70's Ludwig snare that sounds really good. The hardware is Titan with the exception of 3 of the cymbal stands. Does anyone know what year the Titan series came out? The stands still have the sticker on them that say "new" in bold print. This will help me in determinig the exact year of these drums. Thanks.
If this set is rockin', I can't hear you knockin'!!

The Titan Series hardware was started in the mid to late 70's I think and ran well through the 80's. If you can post pics of the drums themselves I can probably give an estimate of the year they are from.
1983 Superstar Super Mahogany: 6,8 concert, 8x9, 10x9, 12x11, 13x12, 14x13, 15x14, 14x14FT, 16x16FT, 18x16FT, 20x18FT, 20X14BD, 20x16BD, 24x16BD(2), 13 timbale, matching 14x8 snare, 14x6.5 Rosewood 10 ply snare, 14x6.5 Rosewood 12 ply snare, 14x5 Rosewood with Kingbeat strainer ( John Panozzo's snare from Styx), 14x5 Aquamarine snare (was told it is Lenny White's)
1984 Artstar Cordia: 22x16BD(2), 8x9, 10x9, 12x11, 13x12, 14X13, 16x16ft, 18x16ft, matching 14x6.5 snare

First time the Titan series hardware was mentioned in a catalogue was in 1977. It ran through 2003.

The starting stands for the Titan generation were called 6890 (snare),6892/6893/6894 (straight, tilting and boom arm cymbal stands), and 6895 (HiHat machine).
In 1989 the new 'Titan STILT' series was introduced, which actually was the Titan stands with a tri-pod tilting system.
The new 'Road Pro' series then was listed in 2002 for the first time. The complete Titan STILT models ran parallel until end 2002. In the next year the last Titan stands ever listed were the Stilt tom stands HTW99, HTC97 and HT109TS.

Thanks Cloth and Ed. I belive they are from around '76 or '77. I know the stands are original to the set as I am only the second owner and bought them in the early '80's from the original owner. I will try to post pics again. Wish me luck with that though.

Awesome kit whitenylon. What year are they? They look very well kept. I sometimes wish the previous owner of mine hadn't put reso heads on the 14, 15 and 16 inch toms. but they sound ok.

Beautiful Kit! If you had any scratches in the finish, how do you get them out? I have tried compound and wax without much luck. Or can you order the wrap from anybody?

Hey bro!
Thanks man, Yours are mighty righteous yourself budro..!
Yeah, These at their age have some battle scars. I've
not EVEN tried to do anything about 'em tho. Honestly,
If you've tried compound, That would've been my stab
at it too bro..? Shew, yes sir... You could get some new
wrap for 'em. I guess my concern would be whether
or not you can get a "good" match. Time and UV plays
just some of that heck with everything.
Ya' know what they say 'bout opinions... I'm just
gonna leave these alone and enjoy them for what
they are. Been told there's some pretty decent wood
underneath..? Who knows, I might just get a wild
hair one of these daze...Whistle

Tx, maybe your right to leave the scars....kind of gives them character, right? LOL! As for the wood underneath, I read where the imperialstars were mahagony. Which explains the deep cutting tones. I think I'll leave the wrap alone too. Just replace parts as needed. Take care.

I went with the ec2's and even on the concert toms they sound great. I've had black dots, pinstripes, attack, hydrolics..... everything. The ec2's have given the best sound yet. And if you haven't already, get some gulf wax (parrafin) ( the kind used for canning) and rub around the bearing edges. Be sure to wipe off the excess. Mine seemed to tune easier and better when I did that. Good luck.
