I do like the first four lacquer finishes, but the litmus test is in the drum's sound. I'm not quite sure I'm liking the bass drum's spurs, but I haven't seen them in person yet.

I think they look great. The finishes look great; and the owner of my music store said he would sell me the jazz kit shell pack for under $500. They look as good as any other mid-level drums but better with Tama quality and hardware. Count me in as a believer boys! Now just to decide on what finish...Think

I'm not sure what to think of this line of kits....inferior rims to the Superstars, but perhaps better birch shells?

The rims are not inferior.... they're triple flanged. Gives a different kind of sound/feel, that's all. They use the same birch shells I believe as the Superstar line but Superstars will now be only offered in hyper-drive sizes.

I personally want the jazz config in that light blue sparkle. Schweet!

I would also disagree that triple-flanged hoops are inferior. Simon Phillips has triple-flanged hoops on his singnature Monarch snare and that drum is amazing! I'm sure these Silverstar hoops are quality.

A lot also depends on the thickness of the hoops, 1.6mm or 2.3mm. All triple flanged hoops are not alike. The triple flange hoops on my DW Classic kit has the top edge of the hoop completely folded over giving the hoop more strength and rigidity while retaining light weight.

I agree that triple flanged hoops may not be inferior but it gives the impression they are when all the high end kits come with die cast hoops and even the Superstars "upgraded" to the die cast hoops from the old Rockstars.

I have 2.3mm triple flanged hoops on my Artstar ES (another budget kit)...they used to be called "mighty hoops".

I also did not realize that Superstars were only going with hyper drive toms. That would make me lean more towards the Silverstars if I wanted an all birch kit for sure.

Mr. Brian (aka the New Guy), what's the thickness of the new Silverstar hoops?

I'll be disappointed if they're 1.6mm hoops - a real 'down-grade' from the die-cast hoops on the Superstar. Hopefully they are the more rigid 2.3mm hoops, I'll definately look at one to replace my Artist Birch for gigging

1.6mm - another Tama blunder. The kits are probably the same price as the die-cast hooped Superstar they replace here
