If you were to own only one Tama Starphonic or Tama Warlord snare, which one would it be?

I've not heard them all, but as of today it'd be a Praetorian.

Well considering I already have the aluminum Starphonic it would be that. If I could pick something else it would probably be the Masai, Valkyrie, or the Starphonic Brass. I'd have to listen to them.
Tama Imperialstar black(2004?):
12x9
13x10
16x16
22x18
22x18
14x5.5 Stainless Steel Snare

I have a Masai and would like to add a Praetorian unless someone on this site would part with a Mastercraft Bell Brass!

I've got LU Bell brass... and I can't imagine living without that snare drum... It's monster, but I think that a pratorian is pretty much the same , just the shell is 0,5' thinner... I wonder if swarovski lugs would fit LU bell brass... Happy ... I'd change it to swarovski in no time :)) and by the way... If I had to choose warlord snare drum... It would be a pratorian ..Dance
It washes like a dog...

I wish our local 5-star drum shop stocked these snares. I've begged for a Starphonic and Warlord lineup, but they say they're too expensive and stock the $200 Mapex & Pearl stuff.

Well, there is a God. My local store just got in a Limited Edition Starphonic Black Steel, a Starphonic Maple and a Warlord Athenian.

I played each one for only a few minutes before I had to leave.

First impressions:
The LE Steel version is loud, with the highest pitched rim shot.
The Starphonic Maple is crisp but with a wonderful low tone making a sonic foundation for a bright snare. If I owned only one wood snare, this would be it.
The Warlord Athenian was clearly the loudest of all three drums. Very crisp and cutting. Even though it has the Unicorn lugs, I might have to buy it. It clearly sounds better than my Starclassic brass snare.

I have these two :
Tama Warlord Collection 6" x 14" Athenian Brass Snare Drum
Tama Warlord Collection 6" x 14" "Valkyrie" Maple Snare Drum (Nightshade Burl finish)

Both amazing ! The Athenian is huge and sophisticated and the Valkyrie is warmer and articulated. Both plenty of volume.

Preotorian must be something as well !

I would like to have them all. My next one will be the Spartan.

Starphonic: Aluminum all the way. I have this snare and IMO it's the most versitile out of the Phonic line. I have tuned it low for a wet/fat splat and very high for an incredible piccolo type crack. One of my fav "go to" drums for recording as well.

Warlord: Bubinga. With it's warm round tone and thick in your face crack I Could use it as my live snare. I have the SC Exotix Koa Bubinga snare and it's killer when mic'd up through a PA. :-)

IF these were the only two snares I owned, I'd have the best of both worlds.... my $.02

I have recently added a Praetorian to my collection and it is everything that Tama claims them to be.It`s both loud but also very sensitive.

Congratz Giraffe!!

I would like a Praetorian if I had to choose between the starphonic and warlord snares. As I mentioned in a different post - I THINK there is a store in my area that still has a new/old stock LU bell brass. THAT would be my first choice!

Already have the Starphonic Brass. It's quite amazing! Other than that...hmm... probably either the Starphonic Maple or Warlord Valkyrie.

Hello all. My first post here.
I have a Starphonic LTD steel. So far it has been on 3 sessions. An engineer said it was the best snare he had ever recorded. I highly recommend this drum.

I used my Starclassic 6 x 14 bubinga (made in Japan) on a session this week. Three tunes, one snare. It was amazing. I recorded it open, no dampening. These snares are also worth consideration. I think they are equally as good as the special editions.
On the session I had 6 snares. The Tama won out over two of my solid shell N&C snares.

Well my new favorite has got to be the Starphonic Bell Brass. I'm a big fan of thick metal shells, and I'm lucky enough to own a Zildjian/N&C. The Praetorian I didn't like simply on asthetics though I'm sure it sounds great...but all the Warlords look gimmicky to me IMHO. I mean...it's a drum, not some sort of left over from Lord of the Rings. Too much form over function...I can't just imagine those crystals hanging in there for any length of time once the drum was given a proper beating. But the Starphonic looks amazing. Even though it's asthetic is borne out of it's functionality, it still looks elegant. I just wish it was 8" deep...
