Wow! I was impressed. I "test drove" a Sky Blue Sparkle kit and it looked and sounded fantastic! Even with the wimpy hoops, it still made a believer out of me. Slap some cast hoops, or even some mighty hoops, and you can't go wrong. Bravo!!!

They're 1.6 mm. I've had a few kits with them and never had a problem, but another poster on the forum has had his warp on him due to them not being rigid enough. I got to play the Silverstars a few times and they sound great. I tested them next to a superstar and they sounded much better. My guitarsts kit should be here tomorrow so I'll make a thread with pics.

The 1.6mm hoops are fine. The mighty hoops and cast hoops are much better. Superstars had cast hoops and this was, in my opinion, where Tama dropped the ball on quality with the new Silverstar line. Other than that, I think they look and sound like great drums.

I'll stick with my Artist Birch for gigging and wait a coouple of years to see if they upgrade the hoops to 2.3mm flanged or even cast hoops

If I got a Silverstar kit would I be able to put Die Cast hoops on it and still use the mounting system?

Yes you can, but you will have the holes on the diecast hoop for the starcast mount.

Not if he buys Gibraltar die casts or just gets a second bottom hoop for the top.

Yamaha Recording Custom sets come with 1.6mm hoops.
I like the sound of those sets but I still don't like working with 1.6mm hoops.

Tama used them to keep the price down and we got to thank them of that. If you want die-cast get a Superstar. I think the shell are the same.

I went into Fork's drum closet in nashville and saw a set of these set up so I figure what the hey I'll try them. Nice tone. Great punch. I liked the tom mount. Not a bad set of drums honestly. I still stand firm on what I said in the past about the hoops. I would change all them out with die cast hoops. I normally complain about being able to post the toms how it is comfortable for me but the sliding tom adjustment thing is awesome and makes it much easier to post them for myself. Not a bad choice plus the price tag won't hurt too bad. I liked these drums for what they were. But I also played on some b/b's and I think I might've been in heaven when I played them. I loved the punch and the lows on the b/b bass drum better than any bass drum I've ever played. I will own a b/b in the future! But as far as the Silverstars I think that they are made nicely but still not for me.
