I'm currently 15 and started playing drum set this summer on an old QR Series Mapex. I have, however, been playing Percussion for 4 years in classes. I buy many standard drum notation books and usually can site read most of the pieces (most recently I site read 1/2 of an AC/DC book and took about a week to learn the other half and learned a Nirvana book).

Would this be a good set for my skill level? It's near my price range.

Hi there! Welcome to the forum! :-) i've heard good things on here about the Silverstar line, so theyre definately worth a look at! I'd say it'd be best to go down to your local drum dealer and sit behind a few kits to get you suited to a particular model or brand. Just so you can have the best, most reliable and comfortable set up whilst picking up the basics and fundamentals of the kit. :-)

It'll also help you get the most out of your money as you'll find different kits at different levels that you not have even sniffed at previously!

I hope this helps,

Jake

Welcome! It wasn't too long ago that I first started a thread here!

Now going to a store is definitely great to find what you want. I advise on doing this even if you don't buy anything. Check your local Craigslist. People don't know what they're selling. I've bought cymbals for a 1/4 of their USED priced. I bought a 6-piece Tama Granstar and rack for $450. He had listed it as a Rockstar and I don't even think he cared to check the badges. Look around local for a good used set, but go to the store and test around. At a store you may fin that you really like the punchy shallow toms...or you don't like them at all. Cheers.
I am in the process of liquidating my unused equipment and buying exactly want I want. :D

I'll agree with uptheirons.Check craigslist and such for good used sets.If you find one you like, you can offer a little less in cash to see if they'll bite. While you're this young,I would start saving and saving.Ten years from now,who knows what will be available? At least by then, you'll have the cash to get what you want. What you like very well and what works for you,buy spares too.Things are discontinued all the time.
