Hello,

I was told to come here from a different forum and post here. I have a 10 year old Starclassic Maple kit. I'm taking off all of the hardware and cleaning the drums fully. I noticed that my 10 in tom's batter die cast hoop is no longer flat. I noticed it because I was having trouble tuning it and then I set it on a table and it wobbles. To confirm that it wasn't the table I turned the hoop and found it kept wobbling in the same spot.

I realize this has to be out of warranty. But one of the other drum forum users told me to post here because of how great Tama is in support of their drums. Will Tama help me in this regard? The hoop, other than nicks on the edges from the sticks is clearly not been abused. BTW, the drums are still perfectly round and the bearing edges are awesome. Just well made drums.

Thanks for any help and for reading this post.

You are right...this is out of warranty. But I should be able to help you figure out what you need.

Take a look at our parts site

Parts Site: Hoops

This will help you figure out what you need.

Once you know, Any Authorized Tama Dealer can get them for you :)

Hope this helps

Mathew, that was fast! Thanks. I see the part I need there. Thank you. Since you were so helpful there, I have another question. I have black nuts/washers that hold the hardware on the inside of the drums. Some of those have corroded and (after removing of course) I soaked them in vinegar to remove the corrosion and now they are no longer black (to be expected).

Can you point me in the direction of getting those little screw/washers...similar to the parts order form you just showed me for the die cast hoops?

And one more thing :) I have the black chrome rims system (whatever you guys call it.) And, I was wondering what is being used on your current drums? I don't think it is that system. Seems to be just regular chrome and is different. The reason I ask is, I was considering changing hoops on my drums to try out other options than just die cast and currently, I wouldn't have that option with the rims system that came with my drums (since only starclassic die casts will work).

Are there are Tama options for mounting my rack toms? And if so, are there any that don't use the hoops?

Thanks a ton!

Matthew,

I looked more into that parts site and I think I found what I was looking for....the mounting screws for the toms. Looks like it comes in two sizes (14 and 16mm). It looked like all of my toms have the same ones, so I'm assuming it is the smaller ones (14mm). I think they were the same size for my 8 in as well as my 16 in toms. Does that sound right?

Thanks!

Craig

I guess I could just try and measure the mounting screws...but...I wouldn't be sure here. So I'm going to write to remind Matthew (or maybe Tom) to let me know which mounting screws are used to attach the lugs to my toms on a Starclassic Maple kit that is about 10 years old. I was thinking of ordering a bunch of them in the next few days (maybe along with some other stuff on black friday). Thanks!

The mounting screws are different for bass drums and toms…please see this from the parts site
http://www.tamadrum.co.j...drum/page/lug_sc_e.html

The new Starcast mounts are MAM10, 12, 13, etc. These are available in Chrome or BN. We can still special order the old type if you want …these are the black ones…MCM10, 12, etc. We no longer have a “hoop grip” mounting system, so you will need die-cast top hoops that have the 3 holes to accommodate a mount. These are also on the parts site.

hope this helps

Thank you Matthew. You mention the the starcast mounts, which is weird, because I hadn't asked about it but was wondering as I have the old black ones. I don't need new ones because of function, I just might new ones because of appearance.

So from the link you provided, it looks like (please help me here) that for 8,10,12,14 and 16 floor toms are M4x10mm Black. Am I reading that correctly. I'm looking for the screws on the inside of the the shell (Starclassic Maple) that holds the lugs for all of my toms and for the legs on my floor tom.

I actually haven't gotten to the bass drum yet to see if I want to replace them, but it is clear those are the 12mm variety.

So bass drum = 12mm and rest of the toms are 10mm, right? And they come in 20pc packs when ordered. I just would like you to confirm that for me so I can order them. Thanks a ton!

you want

MSL-SCTBN for your toms

these will be in "Black Nickel"

they are sold as individuals so you will need to order as many of each as you will need

if you are talking about the mounting Screws only...they are ordered its a set of 20

Matthew, you are the best! Ok, you totally confirmed for me the black mounting screws I need to order. Now I do have some corrosion, minor, on CHROME lugs...so you gave me the order stuff for the black ones...can you show it for the chrome??

I'm sorry for bothering you! If you celebrate Thanksgiving (have no idea where you are from) I hope it is the best one yet.

Matthew, I have an additional question. From looking through the parts catalog, I can't find another thing I need. On the Starclassic floor tom leg holders...the mounting screws on the inside of the drum go through a rectangular piece of metal (to spread the tension of the floor tom leg over more surface area) and in the catalog, they show this, but don't give any part number for it. I would like to replace the 3 of them on one of my floor toms...can you tell me what that part number/name is?

thanks!

I actually think you have to buy the whole mounting bracket to get that peice...meaning it doesn't come separate.

if It's pictured and has no key number (A-1 or something) then you will need to get the whole assembly to get that peice.

Matthew, I was afraid you were going to say that. I guess I'll just spray paint those parts myself. Thanks for all of the help.
