I have a tama starclassic performer efx birch set.
And i just can't tune it the way i want.

I have a powerstoke 3 batter and a powerstroke 3 resonant.

And a pillow inside against the batter head.

I don't have the money to buy new heads. And in 3 weeks I have to record in studio.

Can you please help me out with some tips, ideas?

Would like to help, but I will need more info. What type of tuning / sound are you looking for? Are the Powerstroke 3 heads clear? Coated? The barring edges are good I assume? The drum shell is in round?

really depends on the sound your shooting for? i would not cover the whole inside of the drum with a pillow if this is the case? tune the heads fairly loose making sure all the wrinkles are out. is the reso head ported or not ported? if some dampening is needed on the batter just lay a roll along the bottom edge of the head keeping as much wood shell uncovered as possible. example of what i am saying for muffling is this one by Remo which leaves allot of the shell uncovered.

The batter head is a clear powerstroke 3
and the resonant head is an ebony powerstroke 3 with a hole in it.

I've already tried some things and it already sound a lot better. I tried a little less muffling.

I want a nice punchy sound with much low end. We play rock in the band.
