Hi, my name's Steven Cormann, I'm from Belgium, I'm new to this forum.
I have a problem concerning a Tama Starclassic performer B/B I ordered a few months ago and thought I would share this with you, because for the moment, I have not been able to contact anyone who could help me. I sincerly hope someone from Tama will read this and tell me what I can do.

Here is the problem. I bought that kit in April in my musicstore. The finish on that kit is "Black Clouds And Silver Linnings". It features a 22x18' bass drum, a snare drum and 3 toms , 10', 12', 16'in hyperdrive. The kit was already at the musicsore so I was able to take it back home immediatly.
I also ordered that day at the same time a second bass drum and a 8' inch tom to complete the kit. They finally arrived last month and I went to pick them up last week.

The problem is that the finish is supposed to be the same but it is very different, as well as the hoops on the BD. The other problem is that my Musicstore told me Tama could only send me new hoops to help me but that they're nothing more to do concerning the bass drum and the 8 tom.
Apparently, the first part of the kit that I bought was a Limited edition one, and the finish changed since those limited edition kits were made and Tama sent me the new finish, but it is still called "Black Clouds And Silver Linings". The musicstore had no idea that the finish would be different, which is something I can undestand.
I also learned that the finish I have on the first part of the kit I bought is a laquer finish and that the finish on the second bass drum/8 inch tom is a wrap.

So my question is, what am I supposed to do ? Who is to blame, Tama or the Musicstore ? In my humble opinion, I don't think that the musicstore is to blame, or not really. I mean, if I order two bass drums that are in BCASL finish, I excpect to have the same finish on both, I didn't even imagine this problem could happen and I don't think I'm supposed to guess that Tama changed the finish but kept the same name.

Honestly, I don't think I can accept this situation, cause I payed for something that is not what I wanted, I hope Tama will understand my problem.
I love Tama and this kit and can understand confusions can happen, but I hope Tama will understand my problem as well.
I guess it will be impossible for Tama to find another bass drum like the one I have since they don't do them anymore, but I think they should do something else that is worth the price I paid.

Do you know who I can contact ?

For the moment, I've written three emails to different Tama bosses but have no answer yet. I know it sounds crazy and that I will probably never have an answer but I was even thinking of contacting Mike Portnoy himself since it's his custom finish. Who knows, he might have a bass drum like the one I need for sale lol.

Hi, that is a stupid situation. As far as i can see, you first had a Limited Edition of BCSL (with Wrap) and now you recieved a BD with new "standard" BCSL as Lacquer Finish. So you only can give the new BD back to Tama and have a look at e...bay, if you find an Add-On or used Kit as Limited Edition. To me the right BD with maybe the Wrap-Finish (you should find a seame) looks really better.

One thing about that lovely finish is really curious:

They started with a Limited Edition in 2009 - to me a Lacquer Finish. Then there were only some with a Wrap. Now (2011/12) there are only the Lacquer-Sets available. But all the pics i have seen about it, there three types of BD Hoops out there: Now they are totally black lacquered (inside + outside). Then we have a black lacquered outside with a wooden inside. And finally there is a wrapped one with (best looking) BCSL outside and the wooden inside.

So i cannot understand, what Tama is doing there, but i always would say, that to me the BCSL-Finish only looks perfect, if the BD hoops show the finish too, like the set of Stewart.

The same thing happened with me. I ordered the same make of kit, only in the color black diamond dust. I thought I'd better ger a wrap for this reason. Well I ordered a 14" floor tom only a few months later, and when I got it the color didn't match. The new drum had more glitter than the rest of the kit. I noticed it right away, but others didn't see it, unless I pointed it out. I called Tama and told them about it. They told me I would have to send the drum back along with one of the older drums. They told me they had to send back to China to get it matched! What a joke. This will be the last time I buy a kit mad over seas. I will buy Ludwig or DW!
