I just got done picking up an old rockstar DX kit and im not a fan of the chrome rings on the bass drum. I really like the look of the wood hoops, would it be best for me to buy the wood hoops or get used to the chrome, I dont necessarily even know much of a difference, just one of those "should I keep it because it will help the kit retain its value" things with the chrome rings, I personally think they look really cheesy. plus did they ever release a 5 piece dx kit with only the 10", 12", 14", 22" layout? eitherway i was gonna buy it, 150$ for it and its in really good shape. Ill post pics tomorrow

22x16(?) Bass Drum
8",10",12",14"toms(i need a 16")
Sabian 14" Hats,
Sabian 14"Crash,
Sabian 16"Crash,
Sabian 18"Crash,
Sabian 20" Ride,
agazarian(sp?) 16" China
Tama Iron Cobra Dbl Bass pedal, CB stands, Tama motorcycle style throne. Just picked up the 6 piece shell pack with mounting hardware from someone on craigslist for $150 tryin to figure out how old it is

maybe someone on here can narrow it down for me. Chrome rings with the wingnut style tuners on bass drum, No model name, Just says rockstar with a serial number after it, I tried the subtract 10 from it but that would make it a 1960 lol. Im at a loss at figuring out what year it is

I have to get some newer pics of my Rockstar Custom kit, the ones I have are mostly with my smaller gig set up from 8 years ago. I dont have the Gibraltar rack anymore. Dang, I miss that rack.. (sob) lol. The pics with the rack just has the 3 rack toms (8x10", 10x12", and 12x14"), 16x18" floor tom, 6.5x14" snare and 18x24" bass drum.

The pics without the rack are of my more recent 5 or 6 piece gigging set up with or without the 10". The hardware for this set up consists of Stagemaster Pro boom stands and a DW snare stand. Lately, I've been using Remo Ebonys for resonants which look really cool with the finish aside from sounding really fat too. I use either Remo clear or Ebony Pinstripes on the batter sides (depending on when Guitar Center decides to stock the ebony's. lol). My snare usually has a Remo Falam white coated head, but the moment it has a white coated Powerstroke 3 on it.

My next project is to get the lugs powder coated black. It's going to look real awesome when it's all done. Stay tuned for pics of that when I get the cheddar for it. I'm still looking to get a 16" floor tom for this kit so if anyone has a 16" Rockstar Custom floor tom to sell (preferably in Black Marine Pearl) please let me know. Any color will do because I plan on covering it in the BMP finish.

The last few pics are what I've been playing on recently since I lack the space to set the whole thing up the way I'd like to.

I'm kicking myself for these last two. I forgot to include my 13" which was buried somewhere during a recent home renovation. Someday I'll get a complete pic of this kit in all of her glory. lol.

Some great pics there Dave, the finish looks pretty interesting. Nice 1970's Slingerland snare too!

I just put this in the new member intro thread but thought i'd stick some pics up here in an appropriate place. Not quite as impressive as most pics up but it does the job for me :)

Excuse the quality.

Thank you Jamest,

I've always thought the Black Marine Pearl was an interesting finish as well. It reminds me of crumpled up tin foil a bit... in a good artistic sort of way. lol. When I first saw it at Sam Ash as a 5 piece shell kit, I bought it without even playing it and ordered 3 more toms for it on the spot. Believe it or not the snare in the pics is the 6.5x14 Rockstar Custom snare in the matching finish that came with the kit. It does look a bit like an old Slingerland from a distance though since I put the die cast hoops on it. I actually have three circa 70's C.O.B. Slingerland snares. There's photos of one of them in the Swingstar forum where I posted some photos of my 83 Swingstar.

Well I posted on page 1 of this thread in 2006 and here's a picture from March 2008. It still looks the same.

This was part of a showcase put on for our Assembly government in Wales.
