OMFG!! You guys were right!!! This head gives me awesome short sustain punch with sweet tone!!!!!! I never played a bass that sounded this sweet!!!! Thanks to all who recommended the emad 2. I put on the larger foam ring for a super fast decay. This was exactly what i wanted!!!! No pillows or anything in the bass shell. I also put a 5" port on the reso head. Sounds so bad-ass!!!! Thanks again!!!

Congrats doodman. I knew you would be happy with the sound of the Emad Head. If you really want to make that kick sound good, add a KickPort. I put one on all my bass drums as standard equipment now. It will bring out the low end and give the drum some extra umph.

Here's some of my Ludwig Kick Drums with the KickPort.

Sandman, I've often thought about the kickPort, just couldn't justify the cost. I currently have 4" holes. What size are the KickPorts?

Yeah man, my bass sounds so so killer. I can't believe it the sound! Iput a 5" port on the reso side the same time I replaced my kick head with the emad. I get goosebumps when I play that thing!

Should I replace my stock Tama heads on the toms and snare too? They sound pretty good, but I think there's room for improvement.

You guys got any recommendations?

Thanks again!

Another thing that you can do to enhance the sound of a bass drum is to use felt strips on the reso head. I've been using these on my DW Classic kit for about a year and a half and just today, installed them on my Ludwig Classic Maple bass drum. They focus the sound and really enhance the bass drum's fundamental frequency. My DW bass drum is a 22" and the Ludwig drum is a 20". The picture of the Ludwig drum was taken before I installed the felt. The felt I have on the DW drum is a 3 1/2" and the one on the Ludwig bass is 3". They are installed between the bearing edge of the shell and the drum head. This is an easy way to really tame some of those plasticky sounding resonant heads without having to over tighten them, thus keeping a lower overall pitch to the bass drum's sound. This is an old time trick that many drummers used and a lot still do.

doodman,
Congrats on the sweet kit. I did the same w/ the EMAD and was very happy with the sound. After about 2 years, the plastic ring that held the muffler cracked and the foam piece kept falling out. I just kept on playing that thing as it opened the drum up a bit...the "new" sound was fun to play and I haven't put the new head on yet!

I've got the Tama drum dial...it is great for getting me "in the ballpark", then I fine tune by ear. Just my 1 cents worth. Have fun!

I got the EC2 SST COATED heads for my toms. I have to say I'm not a huge fan. The sound they produce is a little too... warm for my taste. They have great tone though. I think the next time I get new heads, I'll go with the clear EC2's. I have to admit thoughk, that my 16" floor tom sounds AWESOME with this head. Far better than the stock heads (which are actually pretty good heads).

The EMAD2 is still holding up nice for me, and man it still sounds bad-ass! I can't believe how great it sounds. The attack, tone, and superfast decay are exactly what I wanted.

Thanks for all the recommendations!
