Thanks: 2 times
I have been playing some Meinl Classics for a while now. I am looking to upgrade to something with a little better quality. I am not a pro drummer nor have I ever recorded anything. I just play because I like to.

I play along with anything, I guess rock and jazz/blues the most. But most of the time if I like the song I will try to play along or as close as I can get.

Right now I am playing a Custom amber fade superstar(hyperdrive) 8",10",12" (rack toms) 14", 16"(floor toms) 22"x20" (bass drum) set with a black panther 13"x7" snare and:

14" high hat
14" Crash
18" Crash
12" Splash
21" Ride

Let me know what ya'll think, I also would like to add a china and a bigger crash

Check out the Sabian Xs20 pack on musicians friend. I got it last year and I am really happy with it. No it is not the top of the line, but for the price you cannot beat it. They have a good sound and can take a beating. I play rock and am a hard hitter, and they are holding up really well. Look at them, I think you will like them.
If this set is rockin', I can't hear you knockin'!!
Drumming......It's what's for dinner!

Hi msouth,

I own two drum sets, but had only one cymbal set-up with them all the years. Just recently (about three or four months ago) I began to check out some cymbals to compose another cymbal set-up for my 2nd drum set, among these some Meinl Bycance, Anatolian, and Istanbul cymbals. The Istanbuls made it for me, finally.

Istanbul cymbals are handmade in Turkey, and they really sound fantastic! Think they are comparable to Zildjian K's but a lot more affordable. I play both now, Zildjian K's and A's with my one drum set, and an assortment of Istanbul cymbals with the other.

I play three crashes with both sets, Zildjian Medium Thin K's with the one set and Istanbul Sultans with the other. Sizes are 15", 16", and 17" on both. I owned a 14" K before which really was too flimsy, but 15-16-17 is exactly what I want and need. Although my band is really loud, I'm pretty sure I don't need bigger/louder ones.

All the other cymbal types and sizes you stated sound just perfect for me. Happy

Cheers, cloth

Hey msouth,

I have played a variety of cymbal brands over the years and I have settled with Paiste, mainly because I like the sound Paiste cymbals have. It really comes down to two things: your personal preference and how much you want to spend. There are many great quality cymbals out there, but I will give you my take on Paiste. My current set up is listed in my signature, and in my opinion, the Paiste Alpha series is an excellent cymbal with a nice price tag. The Alphas are a mid-range cymbal would make a real nice upgrade for you. I also play the Rude series which is really good for hard hitting stuff like rock or metal. The Rude takes a beating and they cut very nicely through any amplifier. The 2002 series are great. I have a set of high-hats and a 20" ride with a bell that sounds like heaven! The 2002 series are a little more expensive. The Signature series is Paiste's high end cymbal. I have a 14" Fast Crash and it is amazing! The Signatures have a pretty high price tag, but so worth every penny.

You can find most of the Paiste line used online, Ebay, Craigslist, etc. Hope this helps. Happy hunting.

I've been playing Sabians for the last 4 years and haven't cracked or broke one in that 4 years. I bought most of mine used and who knows how they were treated before I got them, but they have held up,even under a heavy hand.
I got most of mine used from GC's website most of the time for less then 1/2 the price of a new one.
