Hi Guys,

Just registered here so first of all; HI, I'm new ! :)

Well, here is the story;
Last year a good friend of mine gave me a couple of carton boxes which he said were just taking space in his warehouse (he has an audio rental company, I am a freelance sound engineer).
It contained a Tama starclassic performer kit in transparent black. It has the sliding tom mount, so it must be about 2005-ish.
only drawback; the only thing that was left of a floor tom, was a 16inch die-cast hoop.

So;

22x18 bass drum
8x10
9x12 inch toms with the original sliding tom mount

I was looking on ebay every week and finally found a 14x11 tom with star cast mount, that was originally sold with the rest of the kit in these sizes as a fusion model.
It came in today and it's really cool to have now a complete Starclassic shellkit for only a couple of hundred euro's (the amount the 'floor' tom costed).
I also own a Gretsch renown maple kit, which sounds better when played soft, but when played loud how-ever, the SCP really impresses me !! For now I got it setup in the studio, I will try to make some pic's soon.

My question; Besides the eBay, do you guys have any idea how I can find a 16inch tom to make it complete? Thanks !!

I know man, can't believe it myself too sometimes :-)
Discovered that the new floor tom is a lot darker in color than the rest of the kit (while it's technically Transparent Black too), most probably because it was produced months or years after the rest of the kit. Has someone of you guys had a similar problem with add-ons?
I removed the tom mount now and tomorrow I will plug the 4 holes with some bolts (flat heads), which I painted black this afternoon.... Will post pic's very soon.

Great story. I was also able to acquire a Starclassic Performer all birch set (fusion sizes) in a similar fashion. My story is in this category, in fact I'm posting an update today. I love the sound of these drums. Dance Loud and wide open with just coated ambassadors and the stock resonant heads. Good luck with them, can't wait to see your photos.

Hi guys !!,

Well, finally here are some pic's :-), sorry for the long wait... we got a baby girl a couple of weeks ago, so was kinda busy :D.

So, short explanation;

- Got the Bassdrum, 10 and 12 inch tom for free ! :)
- Bought the 14 inch tom on eBay, although it's the same 'transparent black' and roughly the same serial number range, the 14 is slightly darker than the rest. Maybe it's due to discoloration by the sun or whatever on the old shells (the 14inch was new out of the box).
- I removed the sliding tom mount for the time being. I like the virgin bass more for now, but still have the option on putting it back on.
I filled the holes with a couple of round-head bolts (sanded the heads, and painted them with black metal paint).

3
4

All in all, a great kit for nothing more than a couple of hundred bucks ! (300 for the tom, and 200 for some new heads). !!
