Hello Tama forums,

Got a big problem with my bass drum. I bought a starclassic bubinga about a month ago from a local shop. It was made in China.

This week I decided to change the skin on the kicker side. I take off the lugs and what do I see ? The hoop is broken in half ! I almost cried and then examined the drum...Here's what made this happen : One of the lug locker (the little metal pieces that are placed on the shell and in which the lugs go). Well one of those things is like half a centimeter shorter than the other ones. So, the lug was coming in with an angle. So now my lug is twisted, and my hoop is broke. All of that because they put the wrong damn piece...

I'm really frustrated...and I hope you could can help me out to figure out what's the best thing to do now. I know it's on warranty....the thing is I really really need my drum, and I don't wannan send in my bass drum and be drumless for like 6 months. It's just that the wrong metal piece is screwed in...I mean I can fix that easily If I get the good piece. I will ask for a new hoop for sure tough...

So guys, what should I do ?

Thank,

Mat

If I'm understanding... it sounds like one of the lugs (not lug locker) on the kick drum was the smaller and shorter lug made for toms and when the tension rod (not lug) was tightened it broke the hoop.

This drum was new? If so, that's pretty crazy. Must've been a 4:00 Friday drum.

It sounds like you only need a new lug & hoop. No way in hell you should have to send the drum back for that fix.

I'm sure one of the Tama guys will help you out shortly.

Oh man I'm having trouble with my drum vocabulary ! My main language is French..I'm from Montreal.

So yeah you are right, there is one lug that's different from all the other ones. It's shorter and makes the tension rod come in with an angle. Ya I'ts just a really ridiculous mistake..

And yes the drum is brand new, It was the first time I was changing my bass drum skin. And I would also need a new tension rod, since it's all warped now.

Thanks !

Salut Mat,

This is the fifth negative comment about China products that I've seen today and they're not all about drums. I do have to agree though.
