Since I'm really interested in this drumset, I have been studying pictures of these drums very carefully and one thing boggles my mind - on closeups one can see that the shell has outer and inner darker plies (as walnut is supposed to look), while the inner plies look like a much brighter wood. Tama's website claims that the shell is 100% walnut, yet the pictures are confusing. Any official info on this? Thanks in advance.

I noticed that too when I was looking at the same pix when posting on that other site :) So is there an explanation about how light the inner plies look Tama dudes?

My guesses...

It is all walnut. As with most woods there is a variance in color between plies. The more consistent plies are used for the outer ply.

I went to go see two of these kits at Long Island Drum Center this evening. These kits were so impressive, I couldn't hold myself back. I left the store with the deal sealed! I am the proud new owner of a Tama Starclassic Select 100% Walnut kit. Sizes are 7x8, 8x10, 9x12, 12x14 floor, 14x16 floor, 18x22 bass, 5.5x14 snare. As far as I understand, this is 1 of only 12 kits in the world. I'll be picking it up on Saturday. I am so ecstatic right now! Happy Birthday to me! Happy

What is FML? Think

There is an 8" and a 14" FT? First I've heard of that.
