Beautiful. I have a set of Superstar Customs on the way from ebay. My first Tamas and I hope they look half as nice as yours. David

Hi David. Thanks for the kind words. I really like my TAMA rig. I have played Pearl, Ludwig, DW and Maypex and I love the tone of TAMA drums. Having the right drumhead is also equally important in my opinion. I have experimented with a variety of heads and I have found that Aquarian heads sound the best on TAMA drums. The runnerup would be Remo. Just a quick comment, I wouldn't be too eager to purchase instruments off Ebay. You will most likely get a great kit but it is always good to be able to sit down and play it before you buy it. Good luck with your TAMA drums and have a blast!

Thanks Para
I hear you on the Aquarians. I have them on the toms on my Premier Artist Birch kit and they are just the sound I was looking for. Warm but still resonant enough for my taste. I've had pretty good luck with my Ebay purchases so hopefully that will continue. They are a new in box kit and the Ebay store has a return policy. Of course it would suck to have to pay to ship a whole kit back. I'm hopeful they'll be fine though.

You won't have to send them back. I have done business with Ebay myself and haven't ever had any problems. My experience has been that it is good to play an instrument before you buy it to get a feel for it, etc. That's all. If you never played TAMA drums before you are in for a treat. Post a pic when you can. I would love to see them.

I have the same color and set that you have. I purchased from craigs listing about 10 weeks ago. I have not played for about 43 years!! Started playing snare in the sixth grade & continued until I went into the Army @ 18 years old. Was severely injured while in Viet Nam on 3-4-70. Never played again. Always loved drums. I'm now loving playing in my garage. Would love to meet some other old farts & jam a little. Dance The set I purchased was owned & set up by a professional drummer. He played miced up. He has the evans (blue) hydraulics heads. They really do seem to muffel the sounds. He also has the remo muffel rings under the heads. They sound good but could they sound GREAT?? All opinions will be welcomed. speasm.

Speasm, it seems to me that your toms are way to muffled. Change those 2 ply heads to a 1 ply head and you will have a more open sound. Experiment with a couple brands of heads to see what you prefer.

Speasm:

Evans hydraulics are not good heads, in my opinion. They make your drums sound like cardboard boxes. I wouldn't suggest dampening rings either. I think people go overboard with muffling. Drums are meant to resonate! Let em' ring. I have experimented with all kinds of heads, and I have settled with Aquarian. These heads are amazing! I do not use any dampening on my toms and one piece of moongel on my snare. I tune very low and they sound great! I use the Response II on my toms, a Superkick II on my kick drum and a custom New Orleans Special on my snare. This head really cuts and I love the snap it gives my snare. All my resonate heads are classic clears. I would recommend you give Aquarian a try. You won't be disappointed.
