I am wondering if it is possible for me to get a starclassic maple kit in piano black with chrome hardware from Japan. Sizes would be
16 by 24 virgin kick
8 by 10 rack tom
9 by 12 rack tom
14 by 16 floor tom
16 by 18 floor tom

Just go to a Tama dealer and order it the way you want If you want it to be made in Japan just tell the dealer It will most likely will cost a bit more but will be worth It and It will take 120-150 day to get.

how much more do you think it will cost and is there a huge difference between a China kit and a Japan kit?

I ordered mine from Japan. As far as how much extra I don't know.

There were substantial price drops when the manufacturing went to China 2010...I'd be expecting to pay 2009 prices and then some for a special order...

I did 2 special orders from Japan after production moved to China. Yes it is more expensive to get them made in Japan but it wasn't alot more. To give you an idea I paid $650 for a 16x18 floor time. Keep in mind it takes a very long time for them to be made and the dealers can't do anything about the lead time and they won't refund you money even if it takes a lot longer than what they tell you it will. With that said all 3 of my Japan Tom add-ons were flawless.
