I'd like to see someone's zebrawood covered Royalstar (the ones that
people often confuse for AS Cordia). If no one posts theirs, I will
post a pic of the kit I used to own many years ago in that finish.

I don't know about you guys, but I really dig the long, thin lug
casings on the Royalstars more than the staircase style Swingstar lugs
or or some of the other stuff Tama came out with from that period.
Does anyone know anything about the "shina" wood used on the inner and outer plys of the Royalstars? Did they do this before they started spraying the zola coat on them?

Shina was used after the Zola Coat era of metallic-wrap Royalstars. If you have Wine Red you will never find a set with Zola Coat.

I have some old Swingstar toms that have zola, are you saying they are older than my Royalstars? I had thought they were newer.

Yes your Swingstars are probably older than the (wine red) Royalstars. But they co-existed too you know.

<span ="bold">Wait For Sleep's got the modern(ish) hardware and
the double pedals on his old Misty Chrome Royalstars. I like it, but I
wouldn't have gone with black tom and leg mounts. Chrome is nice with
Misty Chrome. That's just my opinion though. Chrome IC double pedals,
too? Let's not push it.

Thanks TH, how can you tell the age of the drums. Does the serial number give any clue?

Artwood, i agree that the Black Mounts are a little bit out of place, but, my local stores dont offer much choice, so i went with what was cheap, which are the Gibralter Floor Tom leg brackets, for Rack Toms and Floor Tom, The old Tama ones just didnt have the holding power with out adjusting it with more leverage from a crescent wrench.

BTW the Finish is Metallic White :P (just to split hairs)

Redroyalstar - I'd have to see your kit's picture. You can email it if you don't feel like posting it. They only made the wine reds for a short time, but serials may help.

Waitforsleep's Royalstars are pre 1982.
