It is in Holland, but in great shape.

Is that kit for sale? I looked at it but didn't see any mention of it being for sale.
Thanks for the link by the way. ;-)

I'm keeping mine, but there's been a few popping up on Kijiji near Montreal latety. Castonguay has a small kit:

Well, as luck would have it, I found a 4 piece kit on Craigslist for $150.00 and a big
kit in Barrie Ontario Canada for 900 bucks shipping in. They should be here early next
week. :-) This combo of kits will have all the original sizes I had on my old kit except the 18" which I'm searching for now. This combo of kits is not the same year as the ones I originally had but for now, I'm happy with that. When I find the ones like my original kit, I will sell this one. Thanks for all the help folks. ;-) I will post pictures of the kit when I get receive it and clean it all up.

I saw the Kijiji listing from Barrie, nice kit, same as mine (84 with staircase ligs and un-vented badges on the toms). I also like the pic of your original kit. The differences from your original kit would be the lugs, vented badges, bass drum depth and color of bass drum hoops. Otherwise, the shell construction and color is the same.

The 18" can be a challenge to find, but there was one on Ebay about 18 months ago, sold for $134.

I found a pic of the kit at Castonguay in Montreal, it's actually in the background of the image below (piano black Superstar), they were asking $375 for the 4 piece, but it looks in sorry shape, missing tom hoop and non-matching bass drum hoops:

I wrote them an email to see if they would send me a few photos of that kit.
Do you know if it's the early seriew lugs, or the ones like yours? I may buy
it just for the 14" tom alone and sell the rest later. I'm probably just going
to buy natural coloured hoops for the kits I just bought, and lacquer them myself
to look like my old kit. Until I find the exact replacement kit, I'll fix these
up to look close. :-)
Here's a shot of my old kit.. different photo.

Too bad you live on the other side of the ocean. Mine is an exact copy of your old one. And reasonable in price. Too bad.

Believe me, if I could afford the shipping I would have bought yours. I'm just a drum hoarder and I'm going through my second childhood with this kit. I have a killer set of Yamahas but that old Royalstar kit I had was just fun for me. I should actually should check in to the price of shipping just for the hell of it.

Finally got the two Royalstar kits I purchased. This one is in great shape and came with all the original hardward and snare. The other kit I purchased needs some TLC but i will post a photo of the merged kits soon. Here's the first kit. :-) It has a few little scratches but I'm going to try and repair those.

I've seen those two kits somewhere...can't put my finger on it :)

That red one is very nice...It's great that you have the clipping from the NAMM show as well. There are so many limited edition this and thats around where nobody remembers anything about them a few years down the track...it's great to have the provenance. My Starclassic is a LE as well, and while those in the know realize it, without any sort of doucumentation there is no proving it.

They are the same that Aje was talking about. The early `81 wood shelled Royalstars used the Camco lugs that were left over from Tama's stock. Tama only made the Camco drums a short while maybe 2 years if that. The lugs were then used on some Royals with painted shells then along came the Shina wood series and they went back to the origanal pointed lugs.. This all happened in `81.

They are nice drums and worth buying at the right price!!

FWIW - The badges have "82-xxxxx" serial numbers on them as have all of the kits of this type I've seen.

I'm officially now a Royalstar owner. Picked this up as is for $200.

I'm thinking its maybe a '78 in Royal Pewter. The pre- omni ball tom holder is fun....
