You are too kind. Thank you for the compliment.

I am self-taught and cannot play a double-stroke roll to save my life. I don't know the rudiments. I don't have proper stick technique, blah blah blah. If I can make it through the gig without falling off my drum throne, it's a great night! Not false-modesty... I just know where I rank in the big picture... and I'm OKAY with that.

I am an "adequate" drummer that brings "extras" to the table, which makes me very gigable.

But there are videos in this thread of REAL drummers... doing some great stuff. Kudos to THEM!
Keep 'em coming...!

Scott: Fantastic playing. "Africa" is a song I love to play as well.
It's one of those special songs that sends a shiver up my spine.

I too wouldn't know a rudiment if it drove over me, but put me behind my kit
and there is not many classic rock songs I don't know the beat too.

So, I just finished editing this last night.

We decided to spiffy-up my rehearsal room, throw some lights up and hit record to make a demo of our upcoming project... hopefully hitting the clubs this fall.

This is 100% live with no overdubs. I am triggering backing synth samples with my Roland SPD-sx... and I trigger *SOME* backing harmonies in "Feels Like the First Time"... just because. :)

Here it is... mistakes and all:

You are VERY kind with your feedback, thank you.
Yes, Wayne is a really good singer and we're looking-forward to getting this out in front of people in the next cpl/few months.

Sadly, the camera batteries died before we could get to the Van Halen and Cheap Trick tunes. Live & learn. Next time, run micro-USB power cables to each camera. :)

Yep. The Zoom Q2n I'm using to record my gigs runs off two AA batteries, which probably wouldn't even make it through one gig. Fortunately, the Zoom Q2n has a micro-USB hookup that can be used to power the camera. I have a HUGE battery that Delta gave me to use with the tablet I use for my "Electronic Flight Bag." The battery is designed to be able to power the tablet through an entire long international flight. I fly mostly short domestic stuff, so I rarely even use that battery (the tablet's internal battery is sufficient for my typical day of flying). So I'm using that ginormous battery to power the Zoom Q2n. So far, I've recorded about 5 hours on it (without recharging) and the battery is showing one dot from full!

Got some more videos from Wednesday night this week. Terrible camera placement in terms of video but the audio turned out great. (Although the keyboard being between the drums and the camera and the angle to the side didn't capture my drums in the mix as much as it was in the room.) Hope you enjoy!

Just a short clip from the soundcheck and the last week's gig.

And yes, a stage with the best view. But it was hot as hell, 90F and nearly 100% humidity.
It's like a sauna in here.

I never saw this thread. Very cool stuff all over the place. :D

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4Y9vzrjLxk

That's an older video of me and my band. I don't like it to be honest, the sounds not that good and my playing isn't that nice either. *lol*
But anyway, it's worth sharing. I needed way more experience with recording and phrasing and stuff at the time. I still do. But then you never stop learning, I'm still young.
And to be able to see imperfections and have the will to eliminate them is the first and most important step. :D

I posted this in another thread, but here it is again (since this is the "Video" thread). This is from my gig Wednesday night...

https://youtu.be/LUx37SHhgh4

On a side note... A record producer has expressed interest in doing a "Whitney Houston tribute" album featuring Toni. He would also want me to play drums for it. What do you guys think about a project like that? Is a Whitney Houston tribute album something you think would sell in today's digital world?

She has a great voice, even though the venue seems like it might have constrained her somewhat.

Any project in which you enjoy the music is worthwhile. It can be a great learning experience and you get to meet new people.

Would a WH tribute album sell? I have no idea. I have zero Houston tunes in my 20,000+ tunes music library.

In addition, I was at a recording workshop last week and one of the data points given was that more music is listened to on YouTube than any other music app; more than Spotify, Pandora, etc. It was pointed out that live shows are where the money is made in today's digital world, and the shows drive the sale of downloads. CDs are considered to be a minimal revenue stream compared to online sales. And although vinyl is making a comeback, downloads far exceed those sales.

So, I'd go at it as a life experience and not base my decision on sales.
